Opens easy with one hand. The blade does have a twist in it. Works very nice as a pry bar. Blade cuts great. The hook and glass breaker work as advertised. Yes I open big boxes with metal staples. I have scraped the sharp ends of those staples across the black coating of the knife. No damage to the coating so far.

I love this knife. Excellent lock up, easy to open and close (one handed), blade is super sharp, and the seatbelt cutter is great on airbags, seatbelts, etc.. Have not used the glass breaker, but pretty typical and should work fine. The main reason for 4 stars is it is expensive – yes, it’s quality, but Benchmade do sell them at a premium.

I’m going to be honest. I’m pretty sure this is my first githubja.com review, ever. The 917 is extremely well constructed, handle is very smooth and in general aesthetically pleasing. It is far less thick than I thought it would be. I justified this purchase by saying that I would keep it in a bugout bag or some other place not on my person. However, this is instantly going to be my new edc. To me the overall length is just right, blade length, right on the money. axis lock performs as anyone would expect a benchmade axis lock to perform. I don’t know if Benchmade read’s these reviews but (clapping) well done.

Great knife by a good company. Cuts through the things with ease. Versatile knife.

I am very happy with my purchase. I have been looking for an EDC knife like this one. The blade is razor sharp out of the box, the seatbelt cutting tool has a smooth easy opening/closing action. I wish I had this when I was working as a medic. Along those lines, I no longer use my EDC while wearing thick structural firefighting gloves, so I cannot comment on the ease of the seatbelt cutter in that application.
Separately, I had been carrying a Benchmade Barrage, and a seatbelt cutter/window center punch tool in my car. It’s really nice to have all of those in this Benchmade Tactical Triage. Another great job, Benchmade! I have many Benchmade knives of various sizes, including the Mini Griptillion which I also love. None of my other knives by Spyderco or Gerber meet all of these needs so thoroughly in one knife. Thank you, Benchmade.

In my first month as an EMT, I used this to cut, as a pry-bar and seat belt cutter. A win and another great American made knife. First responder discount would be nice!

This isn’t your typical pocket knife. This is more of a tactical entry tool. With the flat tip of the blade, poking/piercing/stabbing is useless. If you want something that does that, get the 915 instead as it has the pointed blade. I have used the flat from as a screw driver and pry bar and it works great. The serrated blade is ver sharp and will cut just about anything. The hook blade will slice through 1/2″ nylon rope like butter – and will cut seat belts and restraints with easy. I have not had the need to try the glass breaker on glass, but it does punch right through thin metal so I would assume it will work in a pinch.
As with any a benchmade, you get what you pay for. While this is an expensive knife, the quality of craftsmanship is second to none. The quality of materials is top of the line and the axis opening is so simple and efficient.
All in all, a great tactical entry/safety tool. Not sure I would use it over other tools designed for those purposes, but if none of them are available, this would do well as a backup. It will be a great addition to my vehicles emergency pack.
