   This is probably the. brightest flashlight i have ever owned. It fits in the palm of my hand. Only downside that I feel is notable is the flashlight gets very, very hot on the brightest setting. So hot that it has burnt a hole the 2 heavy duty fabric cases when the flashlight actually got cut on because something got against the on/off switch.

   I have quite a few Nitecore lights dating back several years, so with their track record of quality I had to give the E4K a try. There’s quite a bit to like here, especially the output on turbo, although with any output this high, it gets warm fast then steps down to high. As always accessories are good…including the 5000mAh 21700 USB rechargeable battery! Having the option of using smaller batteries (CR123/16340/18350) with the included adapter tube is convenient. The thing about the 21700 battery is that it’s several centimeters longer than the average 21700. Charging it in an external charger (and not using the USB option) is tricky, because chances are it won’t fit in the charger you own, unless it’s an XTAR ST2! Nitecore doesn’t recommend using an 18650, but as long as it’s a button-top, it should work. It has 2 operating modes as well….daily and tactical. When set to tactical… Strobe, SOS, & Beacon are available. In daily mode, you have the option of activating turbo by triple clicking from “off”. This action within the tactical setting produces Strobe. Changing interfaces is done by pressing the switch while loosening the cap. A “blink” once re-tightened confirms the change. What takes a bit getting used to, is the UI. A holding press is required to turn it on, but if need to cycle through the modes to decide which output you want, you need to KEEP holding. Whenever you release the switch to utilize a certain mode, you can’t cycle again until you turn it off, and then on again with another holding press. The good thing is that ultra-low can be accessed from “off” with a double-click. But with mode memory if it was on high or turbo previously, then that’s what it’ll cycle to even if you go to ultra-low directly, first. There’s a voltage counter in the switch that gives an accurate readout when the tail is loosened. It can also be accessed by a single click…from “off” but strangely, doesn’t give the same detail as doing it the other way. Overall, the E4K is a great light, and the beam produced by the four LED’s is clean and smooth. As long as you’re okay with the interface, I recommend the E4K.
