the knife itself is nice except for the sharpness. It has a rough ground edge. it will take me many hours of re-sharpening to get it up to what you would expect for a knife of this price. The biggest disappointment is the scabbard. it is made of (2) pieces of injection molded plastic, the upper half smooth and free of molding burrs. HOWEVER, the lower half was NEVER cleaned up leaving sharp edges of plastic that I had to sand off to avoid getting cut or scratched. The biggest issue was the knife retention. the scabbard has (2) small “Tabs” that lock the knife in place. These were filled with overflowing plastic from the molding process. Just like the exterior. I managed to clean it out using an X-Acto knife without taking the scabbard apart. Which I considered. Mismatched Colors – Knife handle is significantly lighter in color than the scabbard.
BOTTOM LINE – Don’t buy it unless you are experienced enough to remedy these issues. Certainly not what you should expect from this brand or price

I really wanted to like this dagger, because it’s really good looking. I own others from Applegate Fairbairn, Tops, Gerber, Boker…all of which are superior to this one. Maybe it’s a qc issue, but for a dagger, this particular one is as dull as a round rock. The point is sharp, but penetration after initial entry would suffer.

Good weight, good steel, looking at purchasing the 10” model in the near future.

The concept of this knife is terrific, but the execution was sloppy. Unfortunately, that’s the bottom line with this one. I ended up returning this knife for a refund, and I will tell you exactly why: (1) uneven grind and an unacceptable factory edge; and (2) the sheath simply would not hold the blade securely. I’ve seen this movie before, and what happens is you go out in the bush all excited with your new knife, go through some heavy bush, hike for a mile or so through tough terrain, and then you go to sit down for a break, and reach for your knife, and it aint there no more. It’s too expensive of a knife for that kind of thing. Again, I love the concept and the design of this knife. This would make an outstanding self-defense knife if SOG had executed it properly – they were on to something here, but SOG just did a sloppy job of executing this one.

I’ve recently purchased both the Pentagon FX and the Pentagon FX Covert. My initial thinking was that this was a medium size knife, whoever it is smaller than my initial thinking. Overall both are great products from SOG however I highly recommend the regular size if you are going to spend the money. This is a great EDC very comfortable and balanced.

The knife is very nice good steal and from a company that has been all of the scale for quality cmp s35vn is a good choice for a dagger the knife isn’t meant for camp use it’s a fighting knife the grind on one end is larger the the other side which I believe is intended for cutting more with one side of the knife while both sides have a fine edge one feels sharper to me all in all an amazing knife and will be my new carry for the near future

I like SOG stuff. Have ton of it. This one is tuff for me. Was super close to returning it ‘cause it’s too small. Everything Else: Good. Materials, fit, finish, sheath, handiness, sharp, light, all is good. Value and size becomes the ONLY draw back. I can easily justify a SMALL dagger type knife, especially a well executed one…but at this price point, again it’s a tuff one.
Good piece. I’m keeping it for now. Possibly good candidate for pack strap knife or inverted plate carrier back up knife.
