I have been carrying a CRKT for years that cost me $40, it’s solid and has never failed. With that said I have been eyeing this SOG for over a year and finally decided to get it. I was leery of spending so much on a knife that I hadn’t put my hands on, but I went for it anyways.
This is the lightweight version, so…
The blade is awesome, but thin. I was expecting it to be thicker. The knife rattles if I hit it while its in my pocket. There is play when it’s open, its not tight. I can flex the handle just by squeezing it with one hand. The handle has a nice texture, but overall it just has the feeling of being cheap. It is not assisted opening so I don’t know why githubja.com wouldn’t ship it to me. It does open nice though and the lock is good.
This knife seems like it’s worth about $60, not $140. I’m a little bummed about it but I going to continue to carry it until it breaks and then I’ll probably revert back to my CRKT. Bummed because I like SOG and have other knives by them that are way better.

This knife, first off, is beautifully lightweight and slim as well as smoothly designed. I’m not sure if it’s this way for every of these knives because of the carbon fiber liners or design flaw, but the locking mechanism on mine came incredibly loose and there’s really nothing you can do to tighten it except add material. It still works perfectly and retains an edge better than any other I’ve had so I’m not really willing to buy another one to see if the design is the same but that just speaks to how solid it is. All around, an absolutely beautiful and well functioning design by SOG that’s well worth the money.

I paid $175 for this knife but it’s prolly only worth $40. The blade is loose when opened and has play when in pocket. So wish I would have bought something else could have bought 2 nice knifes for $175.worst SOG I ever bought👎

I have both LTE and the steel liner version. The LTE has very inconsistent release feel, sometimes it takes extra effort to unlock it, sometimes it is very smooth. The steel (non-LTE) version is incredibly smooth for release and was smooth out of the box. I hope the LTE version smooths out with use. It is noticeably lighter than the steel liner version. Time will tell…
ETA: After a week of forcing the blade to push against the lock bar back and forth the action has broken in. it is as smooth as the stainless version. It just seems manufacturers slap together parts without ever function checking or performing any QC these days. I shouldn’t have had to do what I did to make the XR lock function correctly for this price. With a simple function check this would have been uncovered and the knife shouldn’t have been shipped without some additional assembly adjusting. BTW, a T6 is needed to take the knife apart.

Wonderful knife. Light and thin but still durable. Already cut through airbags and seat belts with no problem. My favorite work knife.

It’s not a bad knife, but it’s ridiculous overpriced, even at $170. I like the cobalt blue handle, the blade is a dagger. Don’t try to use it as a tool. You’ll damage a $170 knife. This is exclusively used for EDC situations. You can do better for less money.

This is my third SOG but won’t be my last. This Pentagon is an expensive piece. Love the shape of the blade. Love the blue handle. Very light. Pleasing to look at and to hold. A beautiful knife. If you’re a knife connoisseur, you must add this to your collection. High quality. SOG quality. This is just one of those knives that needs to go wherever you go…
