   I have a few good quality knives from Buck and was looking for another when I ran into the lightning deal on these and bought them instead. The blade is a pretty well made, albeit quite a bit smaller than I was expecting, and looks like it’s a full tang blade. The handle seems pretty be just plastic, at least it feels like cheap plastic. The scabbard is pretty cool though, it looks like a high impact plastic with a seatbelt cutter slit built in, the knife fits into it perfectly and kind of snaps in so I don’t need to worry about the knife slipping back out. As as matter of fact my 16 year old son had a hard time getting the knife back out. It also has a rudimentary sharpener built in, not sure I’d ever use it but it’s there in a pinch.

   The only real problem is that for some reason, even after reading the description, I was thinking more Kabar size and it’s no where near that big. The handle is a bit small for my hand so it’s not the most comfortable thing to hold.

   AS THE EVERYMANS REVIEWER I’m going to preface this by saving that it gets four stars because the sheath itself should have been made better for the inabilities to remove the knife quickly. The hooks and attachment was made way to high up on the knife handle so trying to grab the handle is a bit akin to trying to grab a needle with only your finger tips. Tactical use of this sheath sucks at best. Though the sheath and knife itself are great because the knife feels pretty balanced and outside of the design of the sheath it works if you practice enough taking it out and putting it back in. The built in sharpener is decent. and seat belt cutter (which when putting the knife back in the sheath the knife blade acts as the cutter, and it has a sliding plate that keeps the seat belt cutter from being exposed when not being used). The pommel on the end of the full tang handle to break glass or faces if attacked is not aggressive as I’d like but is better than nothing. The plastic handle actually feels great but don’t know how it’s gonna handle when wet or when your hands get sweaty. When held in either my left or right hand my thumb naturally goes to the front of the handle which has a little slightly curved end to it (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE GRIPPED THUMB AREA ON THE ACTUAL KNIFE BLADE) which makes the knife feel really comfy and safe in my hands to use. The fire starter rod built in the sheath is a really cool extra but wonder how many uses it’ll be able to handle before replacing. ITS A SOG so I probably have a feeling you can get replacement parts easy. OTHER THAN THE UPPER CLIP AREA WHERE THE KNIFE HANDLE IS HARD TO GRAB ONTO IT LOOKS LIKE YOU CAN REMOVE THAT PART AND JUST USE IT “sans” THE CLIP but the sheath would only be good for throwing it in a bag for future use and not for attaching to your body All in all this EVERYMANS REVIEWER is giving this knife and sheath combo a thumbs up but as far as the ease of use in an emergency for quick removal this gets a big thumbs down!!!!!!

   I like the quality of the knife. Looks good and is a well-made product. The downside of this is the hard sheath with all the stupid bell and whistle “sharpener and cord-cutter” features. Bottom line: It has a belt CLIP, not a belt loop. So, whenever you sit down, say getting into your truck or whatever, there is the chance that the hard sheath just pops straight up off your belt. I have found my knife sitting in the seat of my truck or on a chair many times when I didn’t realize it had come off my belt.

   What did I do to fix this? SOG makes a Nylon Molle Sheath for $18 that completely can be worn on a belt and will not slip off. Can also be attached to my pack. Maybe not a sleek as the rigid molded nylon sheath, but WAY more comfortable and secure. Don’t risk losing your knife because of a bad belt clip!

   Excellent production piece. I would say one one SOG’S better platforms. Well worth the cost in upgrading from the “Seal pup”. The upgraded sheath is the only way to go. Only flaw could be the belt clip, which pulls out with the knife once in awhile. A better design should be considered by SOG.

    Exceptional Quality. I couldn’t believe how sharp this knife was. Cut through strong half inch thick cardboard box as my first test with no effort. No skipping or tearing, Just slid right through. Feels like it was custom made for my hand. Everything about this knife and sheath screams professional quality. I own dozens of knives, and this one is my new favorite. Can’t go wrong. I’m happy to give a great review.

    Every time I go out to hike or to camp I keep this knife either in my backpack or on my side. I have used it for chopping smaller kindle wood and for cutting branches using a wood stick to hammer through. Durable it is plenty Durable. Not saying that it can’t be broken or damaged but if you properly use it for this reason it will take care of your basic needs for a survival tool. If you dont wedge it and force it into a position its not created for. This is a good blade for your money. With all good equipment you have to use it properly to get the good results. I wouldn’t recommend depending on the ferro rod but it does give spark if you have some really dry cotton balls you can pull off a fire with this tool.
